Hi All! We’re considering whether to use AirTable or Google Sheets as a central place to store our customer data. In our use cases, we particularly need to read/write to/from our email marketing software (Klaviyo is where we lean), to ensure the data in AirTable/Sheets is synced with our email marketing software.

Has anyone tried both AT and Sheets, and if so, do you have any perspective on which has proven easier to integrate with? Thanks for any advice!

Google Sheets certainly feels more straightforward, which might be due to most users having some familiarity with it from their daily tasks.

I believe both have their advantages. Airtable offers a more streamlined method for configuring filtered views and access controls, along with the capability to establish workflows within its database. Conversely, Google Sheets is free, boasts numerous plugins in its Marketplace, and Airtable can become quite costly when managing substantial datasets.

Hope this is helpful!

To add to the discussion, it depends somewhat on your specific requirements.

As mentioned, Airtable includes numerous built-in features for dashboarding and offering multiple views (e.g., one for marketing, one for the CEO…). Implementing these with Gsheets requires considerably more effort, though it is achievable.

Both platforms offer options for internal data automation and processing, either through extensions, formulas, or App Script in Sheets.

Ultimately, the decision hinges on:

  • Your needs (is it solely data storage, or do you require filtered views, multiple dashboards…)
  • The amount of time you're willing to dedicate to data setup
  • Your budget considerations
  • And so on...

(Note: If you're feeling adventurous, there's also an open-source tool called nocodeDB that serves as an alternative to Airtable.)
