Hi,

As the subject states, I'm looking to save photos (like those from Google Photos or screenshots) into a Google Doc. The goal is to be able to comment on the photo and take notes directly within the document. Essentially, I don't just want to upload the photo to Google Drive; I want the photo to initiate the creation of a Google Doc and then be embedded within it. Seems straightforward, right? 🙂

For instance, I might take a picture of my journal. callin.io would then send that photo to a Google Doc where I could use voice typing to add further notes or thoughts.

I know Evernote might handle this very easily, but I'm aiming to keep everything within G Suite to avoid searching across different platforms.

Anyway, that's more context than you likely needed, but it explains my objective.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Josh

Hi!

Thanks for the detailed explanation. What you're aiming for is nearly achievable. The missing element is that the Google Docs Create Document from Template action does not accommodate inline images. We have an existing feature request for this, and I've added your vote. Additionally, we cannot send hyperlinks using that action (another feature request, to which your vote has been added).

The closest workaround I can offer is to include the text for the link to that image in Google Drive (I'm not entirely certain if Google Photos appears in Drive) and then, once it's in the document, I can perform a couple of actions to retrieve the image:

Select the link, convert it into a proper hyperlink, then I can click on it and drag the resulting image into the document. I'm not sure if this is helpful for your specific situation, but I enjoyed discovering a clever little workflow that might assist others 🙂

Hello!

I'm following up with you here, as I haven't seen a response to my previous message. Were you able to resolve the issue, or do you still require assistance? Please let us know 🙂

I know this is old, but are there any updates on this?

Let’s say I’m using the Create Document from Template action in callin.io and I have:

{{name}}

{{image}}

All the images are in Google Drive links. Is there a way to insert them? Obviously, just inserting a Google Drive link to the image won’t actually insert the image; it will show a link. Are there any tags like `[img]` or something I can add to my Google Drive URLs with photos so that it inserts the photo into the Google Doc that I created?

I'd also like to add my support for these two features. I'm encountering similar limitations when trying to include proper links and images within Google Doc templates.

Thank you!

For the time being, I managed to achieve this with the following configuration:

You can utilize the following callin.io workflow:

- Search and Replace Text With Image in PDF using PDF.co (3.4.0)

Essentially, you can insert a specific word (e.g., “placeImageHere”) into your Google Docs template. Subsequently, use the PDF.co callin.io app (this requires a paid subscription, approximately €10 per month) and leverage the export response PDF feature from your Google Docs Template callin.io app. PDF.co will then substitute the unique text found in your Google Docs with an image you supply.

Hello callin.io Community,

To create a Google Doc and embed photos from various sources, begin by opening Google Docs and creating a new document. To insert a photo, click on "Insert" in the top menu, then select "Image." From there, you can choose to upload from your computer, use Google Photos, take a snapshot, or insert via URL. This enables you to add screenshots, saved images, and other photos directly into the document where you can easily comment, annotate, and take notes. For a more seamless integration and enhanced functionality, I suggest installing the Google Photos app and Google Drive app on your devices to streamline the process of managing and accessing your photos.

Good to See this Topic!!

Hello everyone, just wanted to share that the feature request for inline image support has now been implemented! 🎉

The Create Document From Template and Create Document From Text actions, in the latest version of the Google Docs app, now permit you to insert inline images when generating a document.

We really appreciate your patience—we’re eager for you to test it out! If you encounter any problems with it, please start a new topic in the Community here or contact our Support team directly, and we'll be happy to help.

In the meantime, happy callin.io-ing! ⚡
