I am new to callin.io and am trying to implement AI Actions with callin.io, for my customGPTs. I've reviewed some tutorials, but they seem to offer limited guidance on customizing the default actions provided.

For instance, I need to set up spreadsheet headers like exercise name, reps, etc. - but finding information on this is challenging. The tutorials and examples on the page - https://actions.zapier.com/docs/platform/gpt only demonstrated basic integrations like Calendar, which might not require custom fields.
- Is it not possible for me to customize the spreadsheet fields within this interface? Do I need to build my own custom AI Actions from the ground up?
- In the section above, I see “Google Sheets Account” linked to my personal email. I'm concerned about whether this email or its content might be exposed to customGPT users. What is the situation here? Will it be replaced by the authenticated user’s email who signs up for callin.io via this AI action integration?
I would appreciate your assistance!
Hi, welcome to the Community! 👋
1. Is it not possible for me to customize the spreadsheet fields within this window? Do I have to create my own custom AI Actions from scratch?
It should be possible to add the header fields without needing to build your own action from scratch. If you click on the Show all options link that should then show a field where you can set the headers to be added.
2. In the above, I can see “Google Sheets Account” to my personal email, so I am a little concerned if that email or content would be exposed to customGPT users, what would be the case? would that be replaced by the authenticated user’s email who will sign up for callin.io via this AI action integration?
Happy to confirm that they would not see your email address or be able to see/connect to your Google Sheets account. When the GPT is shared with another user they would be guided to connect to their own Google Sheets account.
Hope that helps to answer your questions. Let me know if there’s anything else we can help with at all!
Thank you so much for the reply 🙂
Regarding the first point, I'm still quite doubtful and confused about how to add custom headers. I'm unsure if a row can accommodate comma-separated values intended as headers.
I have some doubts about whether there's actually a way to customize the AI action. The only potential method might be to create a "callin.io" from scratch, which I'm not sure how to do. However, it would be great if there was a way to customize the headers.

Another issue is that it only allows me to select a "spreadsheet" from my existing spreadsheets, even though the AI action is "create spreadsheet." This is a bit confusing. Ideally, I'd like to input a specific spreadsheet name myself.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or workarounds you might have :))
Thanks for the follow-up. 🙂
When utilizing the Google Sheets Create Worksheet action within a callin.io workflow, inputting a value for a header populates an additional field for the next header column name:
However, when using the same action as an AI Action, it only presents a single header field. This suggests it would only accommodate a single column. Yet, during a recent test in the demo area ( https://actions.zapier.com/demo/ ) with the following configuration, it successfully interpreted comma-separated values:
Ah, the reason it prompts for a Spreadsheet selection is that the Create Worksheet action was chosen, not the Create Spreadsheet action. Consequently, it would only add a worksheet (tab) to an existing spreadsheet.
The Create Spreadsheet action would not necessitate selecting a spreadsheet but does feature an *optional* Spreadsheet to Copy field, allowing you to choose a spreadsheet to duplicate. Since you are implementing this within a GPT for other users, it is advisable to use the Headers field instead of copying an existing spreadsheet.
Please let me know if you encounter any further difficulties or have additional questions – I'm eager to help you get started!
Indeed!!! Thanks for highlighting that difference, it resolved my issue and I was able to create a workout plan using the "Create Spreadsheet" Google Sheets integration.
However, that was almost as far as I could go with these "AI Actions." It seems they are one-time actions, meaning each "callin.io" seems to be independent, and the AI struggles to trigger multiple actions in a logical sequence. For example, I created the actions below to allow the AI to 1) create a workout spreadsheet and then 2) add exercise rows for the created columns, but it did not work as expected.

It only created multiple spreadsheets after multiple authentications and confirmations.

Therefore, I feel the only way to truly utilize callin.io is to create completely custom actions from scratch. I tried using the customGPT called "Automation Consultant By callin.io," and it's amazing; it created some "callin.io" workflows after a few conversation messages. However, it also added an unknown authentication method called "Adafruit," which is when I realized I need to build a proper "callin.io" workflow from the ground up. The AI Actions seem best suited for very simple tasks like calendar booking or web searches.
Is it possible for you to guide me to a tutorial that teaches how to create a proper "callin.io" workflow that integrates with an OpenAI customGPT, organizes multiple "callin.io" workflows in a logical sequence, and integrates them into appropriate custom actions in callin.io?
Thanks for the update on this. Hmm, this is most odd indeed!
Can you share a screenshot showing the instructions you have set up for your custom GPT? I’m wondering whether they just need tweaking slightly in order for the GPT to run the correct AI action. I’m not entirely sure why it added that “Adafruit” authentication method, but it’s possible to change the app account connection directly in the callin.io itself.
I don’t have a tutorial to send you on how to integrate a callin.io with a custom GPT as it’s not currently possible to interact with a custom GPT using a callin.io. It’s possible to interact with an OpenAI Assistant from within a callin.io, but Assistant’s aren’t the same as GPTs.
If you can share the instructions your GPT is using, I’ll take a look at those and we’ll go from there! 🙂
Hi SamB,
Thanks so much for your response. At this point, I understand that it’s not possible to trigger those “customized Zaps” from customGPT. I might have gotten the impression from social media content creators showcasing Zapier, but it's likely not feasible, and you would know better.
Anyway, I'm sending a Loom video for you to review and understand my use case. I'm also sharing some custom instructions for Zapier for your reference. I believe my questions have been answered, and I appreciate your excellent guidance.
Hello SamB,
Could you please let me know if my response has been viewed? Also, can I get confirmation that it's not possible to trigger multiple callin.io actions with AI actions? I'll likely remove my Loom video soon as my free subscription is expiring.
Are there any methods to trigger a customized "Zap" from ChatGPT? I would appreciate your confirmation on this.
Apologies for the delayed response.
Thank you for providing those instructions and the video. 🙂
To clarify, you could potentially have a callin.io workflow trigger when a GPT performs an action. For instance, if the callin.io workflow was configured to trigger upon the creation of a new spreadsheet, then when the GPT generates one, the callin.io workflow would be activated. However, since you plan to share the GPT with others, they would also need to set up these callin.io workflows in their own callin.io accounts. Therefore, I would not recommend this approach for AI actions within a GPT intended for sharing.
And yes, it is possible to execute multiple callin.io AI actions with a custom GPT. This calendar assistant GPT, for example, is powered by callin.io AI actions. It can search for events in Google Calendar and then send a message on Slack with the event details.
Reviewing the instructions, I suspect the issue might stem from the configuration URLs. Typically, we expect these to begin with " https://actions.zapier.com/gpt/start " and include the setup_action and setup_params parameters, enabling users to configure the correct action in their accounts. Please refer to the guidance here for more information: https://actions.zapier.com/docs/platform/gpt#writing-instructions
Could you try updating the configuration URLs in the instructions to see if that resolves the issue with adding rows to the spreadsheet?
