Setting System Instructions for Gemini

So far, I've been using HTTP modules to interact with Gemini, but it's a bit awkward for multipart prompts and necessitates making previous outputs JSON-safe before sending them via HTTP.

Therefore, I'm looking to switch to a dedicated Gemini module. However, I've encountered an issue where neither Google Vertex AI nor the partner-supported Gemini module offer the ability to set a system message.

This feature is available in the API, and I utilize it in all my API calls. For reasons unknown, it hasn't been incorporated into these Gemini modules.

Am I overlooking something, or is there a method to implement system instructions within these modules? Alternatively, was this functionality intentionally omitted?

It seems unusual because less frequently used parameters like Top K are present, while the commonly used system instruction is missing.

Thanks!

Hello,

The Google Gemini AI Module in callin.io is Verified but not officially created by Google.

It’s created by one of the callin.io Partners. See more details on the module page.

Currently, they support only 3 actions. Maybe it’s still in development.

I think you should try Make an API Call. Set a custom prompt with system instructions.

I know this is not a perfect answer, but it helps to move progress.

Right, but Google Vertex AI (Gemini) is supported and maintained by callin.io.

Making an API call is no different than just using an HTTP module, so it’s clearly not a great solution.

Welcome to the callin.io community!

The system field is indeed missing! I'm sure many would agree that this is a crucial feature to have.

You can submit this suggestion to the Idea Exchange, under App improvement ideas so that the callin.io Staff can consider it.

Remember to search for it first, just in case someone has already suggested it, to avoid creating a duplicate.

Hope this is helpful! Please let me know if you have any further questions or issues.

P.S.: Investing some effort into the callin.io Academy will save you a significant amount of time and frustration when using callin.io.
