I'm evaluating callin.io as a potential replacement for Zapier, but I'm encountering some issues.

My initial scenario was quite straightforward. In Zapier, when setting up a Zap, I can fetch recent items to test the connection for a specific app. I haven't found a similar option in callin.io other than running the entire scenario. If I just want to test a single app's connection and see the data it retrieves, I'd prefer not to execute the whole workflow. A screenshot illustrating this on Zapier is attached.

Additionally (please see the second attachment), I ran a scenario for testing, and it remained in a "spinning" state overnight. There was no error message or notification to indicate the problem. It provided no useful information, forcing me to manually stop it.

Finally (refer to the third and fourth attachments), Zapier pre-fills values for selection. In the provided examples, when adding a tag on your platform, I have to manually type it in. This means if I don't know the exact tag, I need to look it up in Mailchimp. Typing it incorrectly on your platform could lead to errors. Zapier, however, pre-populates the tags, allowing me to simply select the correct one.

I hope I'm just overlooking something.

Hi,

It's waiting because there's no data to trigger the scenario. You can resolve this by inputting information into the spinning module, which it would normally receive from thrivecart.

Additionally, there's an option to execute only a specific module. Simply right-click on the module and choose the option to run this module only.

I'm a bit stuck...

You mentioned that I can input information into the spinning module. How exactly do I do that? When the module is spinning, clicking on it doesn't seem to do anything.

Also, you suggested an option to run only a selected module by "right-clicking" on it. Since this is a web application, right-clicking brings up the browser's default context menu, which isn't related to callin.io. How can I properly "right-click" on a module?

The spinning module appears to be awaiting an event. Therefore, until something calls or triggers it, nothing will occur.

So, I established a ThriveCart webhook, and this is the output you receive:

àà

Observe the URL beneath the icon. A client must call this URL to initiate the scenario. This is why it is spinning.

If you run only this module:

When you invoke it with a web client (or similar tool), it will trigger the webhook but not the remainder of the scenario. This will enable you to see the input received by the webhook.

It might be beneficial to consult the callin.io academy courses to explore the capabilities of callin.io.

Welcome to the callin.io community!

This is because the module is an INSTANT (Webhook) trigger, and not a POLLING trigger.

There are two main types of triggers: Polling (scheduled) and Instant (webhooks). Polling triggers can only run on a schedule, while Instant triggers can be run as soon as data is received by the webhook.

Polling means callin.io checks an external service for changes (pull changes to callin.io). Webhook (instant) triggers mean the external service calls callin.io when there are new changes (push changes to callin.io).

To find out more about the different types of Trigger modules, please refer to the Types of Modules and Webhooks sections of the callin.io help center.

I recommend completing the callin.io Academy first.

Here are some useful links and guides you can use to learn more about how to use the callin.io platform, apps, and app modules. I found these helpful when I was learning callin.io, and I hope they might benefit you too —

I’m in a similar situation while evaluating replacements for Zapier.

For this, I've found that if one module relies on data from a preceding module, then running just that module seems ineffective – am I misunderstanding something? Why isn't it preserving information? To view test data, it appears I must re-execute the entire scenario each time.

Similarly, I sometimes wish to initiate execution from a specific point, like "run scenario FROM HERE," starting at the Nth module.

I was quite enthusiastic about trying callin.io, but the visual builder feels significantly less intuitive. Zapier is straightforward for building workflows. What am I overlooking? I would welcome it if this is 'user error' and I simply haven't discovered the correct options yet.

Yeah, the inability to test seems like a really obvious shortcoming to me, too. I was looking to switch but can’t figure out how to get my new scenarios tested properly. Very frustrating because I am usually decent at figuring out this kind of stuff, but like you say, this is far less intuitive than callin.io, despite the fact that it looks more intuitive visually.
