Hi callin.io Community,
I'd like to report a freelancer who scammed me. I hired them to build an AI agent for a humanitarian project and sent them $120 upfront as part of a $1,000 agreement. It has now been over two weeks, and they have not responded to any of my messages or completed any work.
Could someone from the callin.io community administration please contact them and address this issue? I want to warn others so they don’t fall victim to the same scam.
Any advice on recovering my funds would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi callin.io Community Team,
I'd like to report a fraudulent freelancer I engaged through the callin.io community. Our agreement was for him to develop an AI agent for a Humanitarian project named UnityAid for $1,000, with an initial payment of $120 and the balance of $780 upon completion.
After receiving the $120 upfront payment, he ceased responding to my messages and has not commenced any work. It has now been two weeks with no communication.
I am seeking advice on how to report this individual and safeguard others from similar deceit. Could you please provide guidance on any potential actions to recover my funds?
I'm sorry you're experiencing this.
Personally, I would just share their name, but I understand if you prefer not to.
There's an expert page with vetted professionals available here: https://experts.callin.io/
Naturally, we cannot directly assist with retrieving your funds.
It's possible you might be able to recover them through your payment provider, but it's unlikely.
Hi there! I'm currently learning callin.io and would be very interested in contributing to your project at no cost. Please let me know if you'd be open to collaborating.
It's unfortunate to hear that. Maintaining professionalism is always essential.
You can share the process you are trying to build at Help me Build my Workflow - callin.io Community.
Perhaps someone there can assist you.
I'm sorry to hear that. Scammers are prevalent, so it's crucial to exercise caution and conduct thorough background checks before fully committing.
Furthermore, it's important to note that beyond just a freelancer to build the agent, you need a partner you can trust. In production, you'll require guidance on managing 3rd party API updates, performing tests, and ensuring they won't abandon you after the project concludes.
Sorry to hear about that! It's beneficial to be aware of such situations within the community.
It's always a good practice to conduct interviews and thoroughly vet freelancers or agencies, typically by investigating their websites, reviewing past work, or checking public profiles on platforms like Upwork.
We maintain two long-standing, trusted profiles on Upwork (personal and agency) with extensive history, which helps establish credibility with new clients.
Thanks for the advice. It’s really unfortunate that this happened, especially for a humanitarian project.
Thanks for the advice! I'll be more careful next time. Appreciate your insights.
Thanks, Giovanni! I completely agree—trust and long-term support are key. Appreciate your advice!
Thanks, Bram! His name is Yevgen. I appreciate the expert page link—I’ll check it out.
We are aware of this and will be investigating it. Thank you for the report.
Hey! That sounds great. Let’s discuss and see how we can collaborate!
Thanks! I appreciate your support.
Great! I've sent you a direct message.
