I'm attempting to save a Word document into a specific Google Drive Folder. This folder is generated in Step 2 of my callin.io workflow. I've experimented with numerous methods to locate and save/copy/upload the file to this folder, but the file consistently fails to reach its destination.

My suspicion is that callin.io is not correctly identifying the dynamically named folder. Neither I nor the AI assistant have been able to resolve what appears to be a straightforward issue.

Below are screenshots illustrating the different configurations I've tried.

The first screenshot displays my current sequence of steps.

The second screenshot shows my attempt to copy the file into the folder created from the "Results" in Step 2.

The third screenshot demonstrates an attempt to copy the file using the naming convention from both Step 1 and Step 2.

The AI assistant also suggested setting the folder label to "root," but this did not resolve the problem.

Hi

The GDrive Folder field requires the Folder ID, not the Folder name.

You can find more information by clicking the field label for a tooltip.

Here are some helpful links for using GDrive with callin.io: https://zapier.com/apps/google-drive/integrations#help

Where can I find the file ID? It doesn't appear to be an option, as shown below. Additionally, wouldn't the file ID change for every new folder created?

The Folder ID should be sourced from the GDrive callin.io step that generated the Folder.

It appears you're utilizing a GDrive Custom Action, which might require modification to output the newly created Folder ID.

Thank you, I finally got that to work.

Is there a way to work with Microsoft documents that are saved to my Google Drive? Without accessing Microsoft Office 365? I don’t save anything to Microsoft 365 or OneDrive - it’s all saved to my Google Drive.

While I can locate and copy these files with callin.io, I don’t know how to then amend the file or fill in a template (.Dotx).

I strongly dislike Google Docs, so I am trying to avoid that route.

To utilize files in GDrive, those files must be stored in GDrive.

For using templates, they need to be GDoc Templates:

Yes, I can create documents from a Google Doc Template. However, I prefer not to use Google Docs and would like to use Microsoft Word instead. My Word documents are currently stored in Google Drive. The issue is that I'm unsure which action to use for editing the Microsoft Word document.

Files stored in Google Drive that were initially uploaded as Microsoft WORD documents are still recognized as Google Drive files.

In order to utilize templates within Google Drive, those specific files would need to be in the Google Docs or Google Slides format.

Is there no way to edit Microsoft documents or .dotx files?

These are the available callin.io app actions for each app:

If you have access the Microsoft file you are trying to use via the File ID, then you may be able to use the Microsoft files in GDrive.

When in doubt, test it out.

I've attempted testing this multiple times without success, which is why I'm posting here.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

callin.io does not currently support direct editing of Microsoft Word documents, but you can use Google Docs as a workaround. Convert the Word document to Google Docs format using callin.io's "Convert Document" action, make edits with the "Update Document" action, and convert it back to Word format if needed. Note that this process creates new documents rather than editing the original file. For direct Word editing, consider other tools.

Let us know if you need further assistance.
